Test shoots are key to production

This may seem the most obvious thing to do, but you’ll be surprised at how many people forget or don’t do enough of this. This has often been said like a broken record, but “Practice makes perfect” (I know, a shocker).

Some group members got annoyed about how many test shoots I wanted for She Said He Said. Still, they were grateful after our main shoot as there were so many important factors we went through those test shoots, such as lighting setups, camera angle, how we worked as a team ext.

It wasn’t a surprise that the groups that struggled the most were the ones where that had little to no test shoots. It’s crazy to think that the first time they worked as a team on set was on the actual production. It’s even crazier as we had so many test shots as a team, and we still encountered many problems on set, but we did solve the majority of them, and I believe that test shoots helped tremendously.

I did a film for fiction film in my second year, and we had hardly any test shoots and guess what? We struggled a lot on set, and the final product was something that I was ashamed of being part of and never shared.

I would also say have a plan B on the kit as there could be a chance that the actual kit you want could not be available—just a little tip from good old Mo.

Being stand in for the MANY test shoots we did for She Said He Said
